- Barkers reagent: 4ml HBF4 in 200 ml H2O. Electrolytic-pass 20V through sample in electrolyte-oxide layer forms on surface of sample. Look at grain structure under polarised light.

- The effects of grain refinement alloying additions in commercial purity aluminium. The ingot has small additions of titanium and boron. Grain refinement results from heterogeneous nucleation of aluminium grains at the insoluble TiB2 particles.
