- Further information
- This sample is a mixed α+β Ti alloy with a Widmanstätten microstructure. The α phase (h.c.p) precipitates out as Widmanstätten plates upon cooling from the β phase (b.c.c). The matrix (dark) appears as thin layers between the a plates (light). The crystallographic relationships are very precise in this example giving h.c.p α plates in a b.c.c β matrix.
