- Brief description
- Micrograph showing the complex chemical reactions which arise at fibre-matrix interfaces in a fibre reinforced magnesium aluminosilicate ceramic subjected to oxidation
- Keywords
- ceramic
, fibre
, magnesium aluminosilicate
- Categories
- Ceramic
- System
- SiC fibre-reinforced magnesium aluminosilicate
- Composition
- Not specified
- Standard codes
- Reaction
- Processing
- The fibres are drawn and infiltrated with a slurry consisting of a powdered matrix in an organic binder and water.. The mixture is hot pressed to give a dense composite.
- Applications
- Sample preparation
- Technique
- Bright-field TEM
- Length bar
- 300 nm
- Further information
- An approximately 1.2 micrometre thick interfacial region is seen between the matrix and the fibre. I1-4 are four distinct interlayers with different compositions within this region.
